HBO Dolores and Teddy Cosplay as Bonnie and Clyde After Dolores escaped the park disguised as Hale, Bernard returned to consciousness across from Dolores, pristine in her season one blue dress, who claimed that she rebuilt him from memory, as she believed they both needed to exist in the real world in order for the hosts to survive as a species. Two weeks later, when Bernard was found disoriented on the flooded beach of the Valley Beyond, he was ushered back to the Forge by robotHale, who revealed her true identity, said that she’d changed her mind about burning it all down, and shot Bernard in the head.

Bernard killed the real Charlotte, replaced her with robotHale (for a full body-snatching breakdown, refer to “Whose Body Is This Anyway?” below), and mucked around in his own memories using that nifty iPad to hide his tracks. Bernard called on ghost Ford for rescue, who helped him build a robot copy of Charlotte Hale, into which he could insert Dolores’ consciousness. Bernard then fled to the Mesa, where he watched in horror as Charlotte Hale murdered Elsie in cold blood. To stop her from deleting all the hosts who’d crossed over, Bernard shot and killed Dolores-but not before she activated the failsafe mechanism, which flooded the Valley Beyond. Dolores wanted to burn it all to the ground, arguing that being put out to pasture on Delos’ server farm isn’t true freedom, but Bernard saw her revolution as host genocide.
At the Forge, Dolores and Bernard had an ideological showdown about the Door, a virtual portal to Eden for the hosts, where they can upload their consciousnesses to the cloud and live in eternal peace. Abernathy even got a glow-up to fit her new Rebel With a Cause vibe, going full gunslinger in a sleeveless blouse and a bandolier jam-packed with ammunition.) With an ever-growing army of hosts falling in line behind her as they became sentient, Dolores carved a path through human blood and bone to reach the Valley Beyond, which is home to the Forge, Westworld’s supercomputer, where Big Bad Delos stores all of its illegal data (more on that in a bit).
